AIR ID 2 Bluetooth Contact Smart Card Reader Review

We’ll go ahead and say it. The AIR ID 2 Bluetooth Contact Smart Card Reader is the way of the future when it comes to smart card technology.

This is reader is by far the most convenient reader we’ve come across. It’s a rechargeable bluetooth transmitter that can connect your smart card to a host of multiple devices with zero wires. As a matter of fact, the entire unit is just the size of a standard card holder. You can put this device in your purse, pocket, or even wear it around your neck on a lanyard–and still get connected to your secure systems.

For those of you wondering just how secure the reader is though… AIR ID has increased security protection with an AES256 encryption to ensure your confidential material stays confidential. What we couldn’t get enough of was the automatic distance log-off.

Yep. When the AIR ID 2 gets far enough away from your workstation, it automatically logs you out of your secure system. This is an awesome feature especially for those of us likely to forget to log off and rush away in a hurry. Or those of us who just loved testing it the system around the office.

It’s also super versatile. The AIR ID 2 is supported by Windows 10, Windows 7 (w/ AirID Bridge), Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android–essentially any platform you’re bound to come across.

However, it’s pretty expensive. And while we feel that the high price is worth every penny, those of you on a budget may want to choose another reader while saving up for this one.

Our biggest concern though regarding this CAC reader is the setup. You don’t need to be a computer wizard to figure out how to connect this. But it’s far from a standard plug-n-play CAC reader most of us are used to. However, once you do manage to get through the setup, you’ll absolutely love this reader.

We know we did.
